SAEDNEWS: Iran Journalists Association chief says Donald Trump may soften some positions to launch a new round of negotiations
According to Saed News political service, Mashallah Shams al-Waezin, head of the Iranian Journalists Association, analyzed Tehran’s latest positions regarding potential negotiations in Islamabad, emphasizing Iran’s insistence on its conditions while maintaining readiness for both defense and diplomacy.
Quoting IRNA, he told Al Mayadeen that Iran has so far refused to participate in the Islamabad talks and has conditioned the dispatch of its delegation on the “lifting of the blockade” and the “recognition of its nuclear rights.”
Shams al-Waezin added that developments in Pakistan suggest Donald Trump may retreat from some of his positions in order to revive negotiations; however, Tehran is monitoring U.S. military movements in the region rather than Trump’s statements.
He said Washington does not appear to be seeking a final agreement at this stage, but rather a “temporary understanding to extend a ceasefire.” In contrast, Iran is seeking a permanent end to the war and does not want the United States to gain time to prepare for a new round of hostilities.
Shams al-Waezin further stated that Iranian officials believe there may be a U.S. deception aimed at targeting the Iranian delegation en route to Pakistan; therefore, U.S. military activities are being closely and cautiously monitored.
Addressing possible agenda items for a second round of talks in Pakistan, he said that if negotiations take place, the “nuclear file” and the “Strait of Hormuz” would be on the agenda, but Iran’s “missile capabilities” remain a definitive red line and will never be subject to negotiation.
He also responded to U.S. statements regarding a blockade of Iran’s coastal areas, describing them as a sign of misunderstanding, as such actions are “impractical given Iran’s vast territory and geographical borders.”
He concluded that in the event of renewed aggression, Iran will respond with strength and decisiveness.
