This traditional practice, which is also common in many cultures outside Iran, is still considered an effective remedy by many people. But how can an egg be used to get rid of negative energy and the evil eye? In this section, we explore the method of breaking an egg to remove the evil eye and share important points you should know.
The ritual of breaking an egg for removing the evil eye has specific rules that must be followed by both the affected person and the practitioner. This practice is performed in different ways. Below are two common methods:
A person experienced in egg cleansing takes an egg in their hand and, while reciting blessings (Salawat), circles the egg around the head of the affected person. Then the egg is rubbed on the middle of the forehead (between the eyebrows), the right hand, and then the left palm.
After that, using a piece of charcoal or a pencil, the names of people the practitioner has recently met are written on the egg, drawing a line or small circle for each name. The egg is then again rubbed on the forehead, right palm, and left palm while reciting blessings.
A coin is placed on the egg, and it is held over a container. While the thumb holds the coin and the other fingers surround the egg, the names are repeated one by one. When the egg breaks upon saying a specific name, that person is identified as the one who caused the evil eye.
The person believed to be affected is asked to stand while the practitioner holds an egg. While reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, the egg is rubbed over the person’s head, then on the right shoulder and left shoulder.
After some time, the egg is again rubbed on the head while the following prayer is recited:
“In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
The egg is again rubbed on both shoulders and the prayer is repeated. Then the egg is given to the person, who is asked to blow on it while the practitioner says seven times: “O Allah, O Lord, O Protector, O Preventer.”
Finally, the egg is broken into a container of water placed between the person’s feet, and the ritual is completed.

“In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. In the name of Allah, Abraham the friend of Allah, Moses the one spoken to by Allah, Jesus the spirit of Allah, and Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, the beloved of Allah and His messenger. If We had sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and crumbling from fear of Allah… O Opener, O Pleasure, and perhaps Allah will place between you and those you have enmity with affection. And Allah is Powerful, Forgiving, Merciful.”
“In the name of Allah and by Allah, from Allah and to Allah, and in the path of Allah. O Allah, I surrender my soul to You, and I turn my face to You, and I entrust my affairs to You. So protect me with the protection of faith from before me and behind me, on my right and my left, above me and below me. And repel harm from me by Your power and strength, for there is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Most High, the العظیم.”
“I seek refuge in the might of Allah, in the power of Allah, in the ability of Allah, in the light of Allah, in the greatness of Allah, in the beauty of Allah, in the unity of Allah, and I seek refuge in Allah’s forgiveness… from the evil of what you find…”
