SAEDNEWS: Vehicle Crashes Into Crowd Supporting Newcastle Knights, Injuring 10 People Including Children
According to Saednews, Two of the injured people — a 5-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man — were in critical condition, while eight others were in stable condition at a hospital, according to New South Wales police. Among those in stable condition were another 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl.
Police said they had arrested the 18-year-old man who was driving the vehicle and were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities said they did not believe the incident was connected to terrorism.
Thousands of people had gathered earlier in the week to cheer on the team during training, the Australian Associated Press reported. A large crowd also gathered on the street Saturday morning to see the team bus off before the rugby league finals match scheduled for Sunday.
