Army-Navy Commander: Iran’s Naval Strength Safeguards Maritime Shipping Routes

According to Saednews, On the occasion of World Maritime Day on Wednesday, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani stressed that Iran’s naval power plays an important role in protecting national interests, maintaining regional security, and safeguarding maritime communications and shipping routes.

Emphasizing the sea’s vital role in global trade and the world economy, Irani described seafarers and sailors as essential contributors to the continuity of this important sector.

He said the sea is a crucial channel connecting nations and enabling the movement of international trade, while seafarers play a central role in maintaining these connections regardless of geographical boundaries.

Irani said World Maritime Day provides an opportunity to honor the people whose knowledge, skills, patience, and sense of responsibility keep the global shipping and commercial system operating.

The army navy commander stated that the naval power of the Islamic Republic of Iran is not intended to threaten other nations or create insecurity. Rather, he said, it is a responsible force focused on maintaining the stability and security of maritime navigation and preventing adventurism in the region. He pointed to what he described as the force’s conduct during the 40-day war [Ramadan War] and attacks carried out by the “American-Zionist regime” as evidence.

He added that, by relying on its defense capabilities and maintaining a strong presence in surrounding waters, Iran has demonstrated what he described as a lasting connection between power and responsibility, as well as between deterrence and peace.

In this regard, Irani said, the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, drawing on indigenous knowledge, experience, and capabilities and operating alongside other branches of the armed forces, has the critical responsibility of protecting the country’s maritime interests and ensuring the security of shipping lanes and maritime communication routes.
