SAEDNEWS: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the snapback mechanism activated against Iran is illegal and will fail, just as military attacks against the country have failed in the past.

Iranian Foreign Minister: "Snapback Mechanism Is Void and Will Fail

On Friday, Iran’s senior diplomat delivered a powerful statement at the UN Security Council following a vote on the return of sanctions under the so-called “snapback” mechanism, initiated by Britain, France, and Germany (the E3).

In his statement, the diplomat highlighted Iran’s long-standing commitment to nuclear transparency and the rule of international law:

  • Responsible Membership in NPT: For over 20 years, Iran has upheld its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), pursuing peaceful nuclear energy transparently.

  • JCPOA Compliance: Despite US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) and violations by the E3, Iran remained fully compliant, as confirmed by 15 consecutive IAEA reports.

  • Global Double Standards: The US and E3 misrepresented Iran’s program while ignoring Israel’s nuclear arsenal, highlighting a glaring regional double standard.

  • Commitment to Dialogue: Iran engaged in five rounds of talks, even as its nuclear facilities and scientists were targeted in attacks backed by Israel and the US—actions described as state terrorism.

  • Snapback Rejection: Iran categorically rejected the snapback attempt, declaring it illegal, void, and without standing. The diplomat emphasized that Resolution 2231 restrictions expire on 18 October 2025, and any effort to revive them is null.

  • Call for Responsibility: He urged the UN Secretary-General and Security Council President to recognize the illegality of today’s measures, warning that pursuing them would damage the UN’s credibility and harm the Iranian people.

The diplomat concluded with a clear message: military pressure has failed, snapback will fail, and the only viable path is dialogue. Iran will respond only to respect, not coercion, making the choice for the international community clear—escalation or diplomacy.
