Ingredients for Syrup:
Ingredient | Quantity |
Sugar | 1 cup |
Water | 1 cup |
Lemon Juice | 1 tbsp |
Cardamom Powder/Essence | A pinch |
Saffron | A small amount |
Ingredients for Dough:
Ingredient | Quantity |
Egg | 1 |
Sugar | 1 tbsp |
Orange Zest/Vanilla | 1 tsp |
Warm Milk | 1 cup |
Oil | 2 tbsp |
Flour | 3-4 cups |
Baking Powder | 1 tsp |
Cocoa Powder | 2 tbsp |
Butter | 15g |
Step | Instructions |
Step 1: Mixing | Mix all ingredients except butter and flour in a bowl until smooth. Gradually add flour while stirring to form a cohesive dough. Use 3 to 4 cups of flour as needed. |
Step 2: Dividing Dough | Divide the dough into three parts—two white and one cocoa. Add 5g butter to each part. Knead well. For the cocoa dough, mix cocoa powder with milk and butter before adding. Cover each dough with plastic wrap and let rest for 30 minutes. |
Step 3: Rolling | Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Layer in order: white, cocoa, and white again. Brush water between layers and press edges to seal. Cut into small squares and shape as desired. |
Step 4: Frying | Heat oil in a pan, fry the pastries until golden, then dip in cooled syrup for 2-3 minutes before removing. |
Step 5: Making Syrup | Mix all syrup ingredients and heat until it reaches the right consistency—not too thick or thin. Prepare syrup before frying. |
Tips for Making Baklava Bites:
✅Shape the dough as desired before frying.
✅Best served fresh; does not have long shelf life.
✅Do not use hot syrup; it will make the baklava soggy.
✅Use frying oil for best results.
