The Pahlavi dynasty was neither committed to moral values nor attentive to religious matters; they did not even respect Iranian traditions.
According to the political service of SaedNews analytical news site, quoting Jahan News, the Pahlavi family and the Shah himself lacked any Iranian or Islamic upbringing. Observations and correspondence left behind indicate a serious moral crisis within that family. To illustrate the extent of this immorality, here are two memories from Asadollah Alam (Minister of the Court), one of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi’s closest political figures:
The Shah and the Mad Sister!
Ashraf, the twin sister of Mohammad Reza Shah, played a decisive role in the political decisions of the Pahlavi dynasty from the beginning of her brother’s reign until his last moments. She was an adventurous and power-hungry woman who did not hesitate to spend money and exert influence. For this reason, when Mossadegh became Prime Minister, he exiled Ashraf from the country due to her political interference, her notorious moral and economic corruption, and her involvement in the killing of innocent people during the 30th of Tir uprising. However, after the coup’s victory and the lifting of restrictions imposed by Mossadegh, she returned to Iran with even greater demands.
This time, however, the Shah did not allow her to interfere in political affairs in order to gain public support and legitimacy. Thus, she thought she could cover up the regime’s crimes and secure the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations to present herself as a lasting international figure. She pursued this goal with great effort, but her attempts never bore fruit.
Alam recalls in his memoirs: Since Ashraf has no chance of being elected President of the UN General Assembly, she has now fixed in her mind the idea of becoming Iran’s permanent representative at the UN. The Shah said, “My sister is getting crazier by the day. These are all signs of menopause. Her greed and thirst for wealth are sated; now she pursues foolish and ambitious ideas. She expects me to prioritize the personal dreams of one person over national interests. If she had even the slightest managerial ability, I would gladly consider her proposal, but because she is my sister, she thinks she can run her affairs over the head of the Foreign Ministry. Her ambitions are truly unreasonable.” He ordered her immediate recall from New York to Tehran. She is currently head of Iran’s delegation at the UN.
The Shah’s Obscene Joke with His Mother
Another part of Alam’s memoirs states: In the evening, His Majesty used to tease his mother and ask her how much she really loved his father. His mother replied, “How could I have loved him? Most of the time I was angry with him.” The Shah responded, “But mother, that is the very reason for love. One does not get angry with those who are indifferent to them.” He continued teasing her with questions about how many nights a week they spent together and what exactly they did during those nights, leaving her embarrassed.
It should be noted that all of Reza Khan’s mentioned children and close associates suffered severe educational deficiencies. The conflicts between their mothers, Reza Khan’s lifestyle and behavior, the thirst for power, and the widespread corruption in the court and among its associates made them rebellious figures. They were neither committed to moral matters nor attentive to religious duties and did not even respect Iranian traditions.
