SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Intelligence Ministry says it has arrested 14 members of the Daesh terrorist group, foiling their plots to carry out terror attacks inside the country.
According to SAEDNEWS, Iran's Intelligence Ministry announced today the arrest of 14 individuals affiliated with the Daesh terrorist group, thwarting their plans to execute attacks within the country. The ministry released a statement detailing the series of operations that led to the apprehension of these terrorists, who were reportedly attempting to re-enter Iran with malicious intent.
According to the ministry, the group, described as being linked to "the US-Zionist grouplet called Daesh Khorasan (Daesh-K)," was captured across four provinces: Tehran, Alborz, Fars, and Khuzestan. The majority of the arrests occurred in Fars, while the remaining suspects were taken into custody in Tehran, Alborz, and Khuzestan.
The statement emphasized that these individuals had illegally entered Iran in recent days, and further details regarding the investigations and interrogations will be disclosed at a later date.
Daesh, which gained international notoriety in 2014 for seizing control over large territories in Iraq and Syria, declared these areas a "caliphate." However, a coalition of Iraqi and Syrian forces, aided by Iran, effectively dismantled the group's hold, leading to their territorial losses by 2017.
Despite these defeats, remnants of Daesh have continued to conduct sporadic attacks in various countries. Notably, the group was responsible for a series of bombings in the southeastern city of Kerman on January 3, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 89 people and injured 284 others.
This recent operation underscores Iran's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and maintain security within its borders.
