According to SAEDNEWS, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Josep Borrell, the European Union's Foreign Policy Chief, during the UN General Assembly in New York. Their discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing recent developments in the region.
According to a statement from the European Union's External Action Service, the meeting allowed both sides to share their views on various important topics. Borrell highlighted the urgent need to prevent a full military escalation in West Asia, as it could lead to severe consequences for the entire region.
The EU emphasizes its commitment to supporting peaceful solutions and urged Iran to help de-escalate tensions. Borrell pointed out that achieving a ceasefire and reaching an agreement on hostages should be top priorities to improve conditions for civilians in Gaza and reduce conflicts in the area.
Additionally, Borrell stressed the necessity of renewed efforts in nuclear diplomacy. As the coordinator of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Borrell expressed his willingness to help find diplomatic solutions that take into account the concerns of all parties involved.
