SAEDNEWS: China Corruption Probe Reveals Massive Fortune: 13.5 Tons of Gold, 23 Tons of Cash (Over $4.5 Billion), and Dozens of Luxury Cars Seized from Mayor’s Home
According to Saed News Society Service, Chinese media have released a video showing that security forces, during a search of the home and assets of the former mayor of Haikou, discovered and seized 13.5 tons of gold, 23 tons of cash (valued at over $4.5 billion), several luxury cars, and documents related to multiple properties.
It is reported that Zhang Qi was the former mayor of Haikou in Hainan Province, China, and investigations into him began in 2019.
He was accused of large-scale financial corruption, bribery, and abuse of power. In January 2026, after being sentenced, he was executed.
This major corruption case has received widespread attention in the media and public opinion.
