SAEDNEWS: In 1960, Swiss photographer René Burri captured the lavish life of Iran’s royal court. While the elite enjoyed exclusive hospitals, ordinary people lacked basic necessities—inequality that eventually sparked the uprising against the Shah’s corrupt regime.

According to Saed News’ history service, Swiss photographer René Burri visited Iran in 1960 and spent several days at the Pahlavi palaces. Coinciding with the birth of the Shah’s child, he captured images of Farah Diba and her newborn in a hospital completely controlled by the royal court. These photographs clearly reveal that the country’s resources were entirely at the disposal of the Pahlavi family, while ordinary citizens were deprived even of the most basic healthcare.

At a time when Iranian women were forced to give birth in modest homes without medical facilities, the Shah and his entourage lived in absolute comfort. This stark injustice and inequality eventually ignited public outrage, leading the people, under the leadership of the great Khomeini, to rise against the corrupt Pahlavi regime and expel the oppressive dynasty from Iran for good.
