Iran Alerts the UN to Military Threats from Trump and Israel

According to Saednews, Iran’s ambassador and chargé d’affaires to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, has warned the UN secretary-general and the Security Council about what he described as “arrogant threats” by US President Donald Trump and Israel.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the president of the Security Council, Darzi said the threats were part of ongoing US and Israeli aggression against Iran, which he said began on June 13, 2025, and February 28, 2026. He warned that attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure could lead to further serious violations of international law, with catastrophic humanitarian consequences and growing risks to regional and international peace and security.

Darzi said the United States, Israel and those supporting their actions directly or indirectly would bear responsibility for the consequences.

The letter referred to US media reports published on October 15, 2026, stating that the White House and Pentagon had prepared military options against Iran, including the possible deployment of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), commonly known as the “Mother of All Bombs.” It also cited Trump’s television interview on the same day, during which he reportedly discussed the weapon and threatened further attacks on Iran.

According to the letter, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared on October 18, 2026, that Israel was prepared to launch another attack on Iran and that any renewed aggression would target “all energy facilities,” with the stated aim of sending Iran back to the “Stone Age.” Katz also claimed that the United States and Israel had dropped a total of 35,000 bombs on Iran, adding that their military campaign was not yet over.

The letter further alleged that Israel’s prime minister had openly expressed his intention to initiate another war against Iran. It argued that the silence and explicit support of certain Security Council members had emboldened him to pursue policies that Darzi characterized as genocidal.

Iran described the threats as grave violations of international law, particularly threats to use the MOAB against civilian infrastructure and to destroy the country’s energy facilities. The letter warned that deliberately spreading fear among civilians and threatening to destroy essential civilian infrastructure could constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law, with potentially lasting humanitarian and environmental consequences.

It also accused the United States and Israel of repeatedly disregarding international legal obligations, including those established under the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and customary international humanitarian law.

Iran called on the UN secretary-general and the Security Council to demand an immediate end to the threats and require the United States and Israel to comply fully with the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law. It also urged the international body to explicitly condemn threats against Iran and its critical civilian infrastructure, which it said were being used as instruments of coercion and intimidation.

Tehran further called for urgent Security Council action, including an emergency meeting to address threats to regional and international peace and security and establish accountability for the actions of the United States and Israel. It also demanded full compensation for damages resulting from what it described as unlawful international acts committed against Iran.

The letter stressed that the Security Council could not remain silent in the face of explicit threats of further military aggression and the destruction of essential civilian infrastructure. It warned that failure to act would further undermine the UN Charter and the international legal order underpinning the United Nations system.

Iran reaffirmed its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, stating that it would take all necessary measures to protect its population, sovereignty, territorial integrity and vital national interests against any threat. Darzi warned that if the Security Council failed to fulfill its responsibilities, Iran would exercise its right to self-defense and deliver a decisive response in accordance with international law.

The letter concluded that the United States and Israel would bear full responsibility for the consequences of any further aggression, including the risk of unpredictable and uncontrollable escalation.

Iran requested that the letter be circulated as an official document of both the UN General Assembly and the Security Council.
