SAEDNEWS: Iran, Niger Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Ties and Global Developments at UN General Assembly
According to Saednews, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is in New York for the annual UN General Assembly session, met with Niger's Foreign Minister Sangare on Monday afternoon to discuss bilateral relations and international developments.
Araghchi expressed appreciation to the people of Niger for their solidarity with the Iranian people in opposition to U.S. and Israeli military actions.
The Iranian foreign minister welcomed the growing cooperation between the two countries across various sectors and praised Niger's position against what Iran considers the politicized use of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors against Tehran.
The two officials discussed ways to further develop Iran-Niger relations and strengthen cooperation within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
Araghchi reaffirmed Iran's intention to expand ties with African nations, particularly the AES member states, and expressed hope that a joint meeting between Iran and the three Sahel coalition countries could take place soon.
He also reiterated Iran's stated support for the independence and national sovereignty of developing countries and criticized what he described as continued pressure and interference by some Western countries, including France, in African affairs. Araghchi expressed support for Niger's efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability while pursuing national development programs.
The Iranian foreign minister also briefed his Nigerien counterpart on developments in West Asia and Iran's response to what Tehran describes as U.S. and Israeli military aggression against its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
