Pezeshkian: Our Path Is the Powerful Defense of Territorial Integrity and Lasting Peace

According to the political desk of Saed News, citing Fars News Agency, Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, and Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, held a telephone conversation to review the latest regional developments following what Tehran described as aggressive actions by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

During the conversation, the Iranian president described the “cowardly assassination” of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution as an act contrary to all legal principles and international regulations. He added that dominant powers are attempting to impose their will on nations through blind and desperate displays of force. However, he said the massive and passionate turnout of the Iranian people in support of their country and political system demonstrated that such attacks only strengthen the nation’s determination to defend its sovereignty.

Pezeshkian also recalled previous warnings that the opposing side could not be trusted. Referring to an earlier conversation, he noted that Putin had mentioned a claim attributed to Benjamin Netanyahu that there was no intention to attack Iran. According to Pezeshkian, recent events have shown that deception and hostility are inherent in their conduct, as attacks were carried out even while negotiations were being discussed.

The Iranian president emphasized that Russia is expected to use its international capacities to support what he described as the legitimate rights of the Iranian people in the face of these aggressions.

Referring to diplomatic consultations with regional countries, Pezeshkian stated that Iran had explained to neighboring states that targeting American military bases was purely a defensive measure aimed at protecting the country and its people. He added that recent attacks by the United States and Israel once again confirmed Tehran’s position that regional security should be ensured by the countries of the region themselves, and that the presence of foreign forces is the main source of instability.

The Iranian president also firmly rejected claims that Iran had attacked Azerbaijan, calling such reports a conspiracy by enemies to damage the brotherly relations among neighboring countries. He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never intended, and will never intend, to attack its neighbors, adding that Iran’s path is one of resolute defense of territorial integrity and the pursuit of lasting peace.

Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for the concern shown by the Russian government and people under the current sensitive circumstances and voiced hope that independent countries and international organizations would work together to compel dominant powers to respect international law and the rights of nations.

During the call, President Putin extended condolences for the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and expressed deep sympathy with the government and people of Iran. Referring to his ongoing contacts with leaders of member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, he emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability.

The two presidents also agreed that coordination between Tehran and Moscow would continue through various diplomatic and security channels.
