Netanyahu’s recent messages, ranging from urging the Iranian people to rise up, protest, and overthrow the regime on one hand, to promising solutions to their water problems on the other, reveal several points: acknowledgment that the 400-kilogram stockpile of enriched uranium has not been damaged, that Iran’s nuclear program has not been completely destroyed, and that “we knew in advance it would remain unharmed,” as well as the admission that Israel still seeks to eliminate all of Iran’s nuclear reserves, and finally, the formal announcement of belief in a Greater Israel within a few hours—all these are significant pieces of an interconnected puzzle.
These messages, read between the lines, indicate both preparations for potential uprisings and conflict in Iran and ambitions to occupy Arab territories and expand Israel’s borders. Experience has shown that Israel does not rush to achieve its goals and pursues its plans tirelessly, with patience, prudence, and careful calculation. Evidence suggests that Netanyahu’s top priority is overthrowing Iran’s current regime.
By promoting regime change through internal protests, Israel can gradually achieve other objectives at minimal cost. If the twelve-day conflict did not succeed in mobilizing people onto the streets, Netanyahu is now using water crises and, gradually, other shortages such as electricity and gas, to stir the population and encourage internal upheaval. This could act as a catalyst for realizing Israel’s long-standing vision of a Greater Israel within a “new Middle East,” in which Iran and its allies in the resistance axis do not obstruct Israeli expansionist ambitions. For this reason, unexpected incidents such as sabotage or terrorist operations to create the desired environment for Israel cannot be ruled out.
Ori Avnery, a former member of the Knesset and leftist Israeli journalist, after studying the history of the Hebrew state, predicted that Zionist appetite for expansion would extend beyond Israel’s borders if opportunities arose. Therefore, vigilance and attention at all levels in such circumstances are essential.
