Iran Calls for UNESCO Cooperation to Rebuild War-Damaged Cultural Heritage

According to Saednews, Farhad Azizi Zelani made the remarks during a meeting with Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The two officials discussed the latest status of Iran’s cultural heritage and prospects for expanding cooperation.

The Iranian official outlined Iran’s main demands and expectations from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre regarding the use of its technical, specialized, and international capacities. He also called for international experts to assess the condition of Iranian monuments damaged during the recent war.

For his part, the UNESCO official emphasized support for cultural heritage sites inscribed on the World Heritage List and announced plans to dispatch UNESCO representatives to assess the extent of the damage and explore ways to provide support and cooperation.
