Xi Calls on BRICS to Support Peace Efforts in the Middle East

According to Saednews, The situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf continues to evolve, while the ongoing war has caused significant human losses across the region and does not serve the common interests of the international community, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during the BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency.

Xi urged BRICS countries to “firmly stand on the right side of history” and said that China would work with other member states to play their appropriate role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.

He also called on BRICS members to take the lead in encouraging mutual understanding among civilizations and strengthening global governance.

Xi described the BRICS cooperation mechanism as the “world’s most influential platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.”

The weekend summit in New Delhi is being attended by the presidents of China, Russia and Iran, along with other leaders. The meeting comes as the US war with Iran has continued for seven months, while the Russia-Ukraine war has lasted for more than four years.

China is set to assume the rotating BRICS presidency next year after India’s term comes to an end.
