Saed News: To reduce the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, a combination of dietary changes and regular exercise is usually considered the most effective approach. However, new research suggests that the key to lowering the risk of Type 2 Diabetes may lie in short bursts of physical activity that can easily be incorporated into daily life.

The 4-Minute Prescription For Escaping Diabetes

According to SAEDNEWS, just four minutes of vigorous activity per day can significantly reduce the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. This is the finding of a new study involving more than 22,000 people in the United Kingdom, who did not follow regular exercise programs but whose lifestyles were monitored for nearly eight years.

The results of the study, published in the journal Diabetes Care, showed that individuals who performed about 3.9 minutes of short, vigorous physical activity each day had a 36% lower risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Those who engaged in around 25 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity daily experienced up to a 46% reduction in risk.

Researchers explain that these activities do not refer to complex workouts or spending long hours in a gym. Even actions such as climbing stairs quickly, carrying heavy shopping bags, brisk walking, or a few minutes of energetic movement at home can be beneficial.

Doctors explain that during vigorous activity, muscles absorb blood sugar more rapidly to meet their energy needs. This process helps improve insulin sensitivity and makes blood sugar easier to control—two key factors in preventing Type 2 Diabetes.

Dr. Emmanuel Stamatakis, one of the study’s authors, says that when these short activity bursts are repeated several times throughout the day, the body effectively keeps its “blood sugar clearance system” active and ready. According to him, these seemingly simple activities gradually improve physical fitness, and fitness is one of the body’s strongest defenses against diabetes.

Experts also emphasize that the major advantage of this type of activity is its simplicity and accessibility. Unlike many exercise programs, these movements require no special equipment, gym membership, or additional expense and are more achievable for many people. Those few minutes of daily movement may be the simplest prescription for avoiding one of the most common diseases of the modern age.
