The tea harvest in Iran’s Gilan province is an important agricultural activity, as Gilan is the heartland of Iranian tea production. The region’s humid subtropical climate, with ample rainfall and mild temperatures, provides ideal conditions for growing tea plants.

Tea cultivation in Gilan dates back to the early 20th century, with large-scale plantations primarily in the towns of Lahijan, Fuman, and Amlash. The tea harvest typically begins in late spring and continues through summer, with multiple picking cycles. The first harvest, known as the “first flush,” is especially prized for its high quality and delicate flavor.

Workers hand-pick the tender tea leaves carefully, which are then processed locally to produce a variety of teas enjoyed across Iran and beyond. Gilan’s tea industry not only supports local farmers and communities but also contributes significantly to Iran’s agricultural diversity and economy.
