According to SaadNews, citing Fararo, Salvador Dalí, the famous surrealist painter, purchased this house in 1930—a small fishing cabin in the Mediterranean village of Portlligat. Over the decades, he and his wife, Gala, worked on this building, redesigning and expanding it by using several adjacent cabins. Dalí, who lived and worked in this house for much of his later life, created some of his most famous artworks there. The influence of this space can be seen in the light and atmosphere of the Spanish coastline in those works.

Dalí described the house as "a truly biological structure." Since Dalí's death in 1989, the house has been preserved by the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, which manages the space as a museum and is responsible for protecting both its interior and its grounds.

The house is designed as a labyrinth, with narrow hallways and varying levels throughout, as well as windows in various shapes overlooking the Portlligat Bay. Dalí himself once said of the house, "Portlligat is the place of creation, an ideal place for my work. Everything here is perfect for working. Time passes more slowly here, and each hour has its own dimension. This is a unique planetary case."
