On the evening of Saturday, November 1st, in a spectacular ceremony attended by high-ranking domestic and international officials, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) officially opened under the hands of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Located near the Giza Pyramids, the museum is recognized as the world’s largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization and stands as a symbol of Egypt’s renewed connection with its ancient heritage.

The inauguration featured a historic moment: President el-Sisi placed the museum’s final cornerstone, and as the vast halls of the collection were illuminated, a grand display of lights and fireworks lit up the Cairo sky. The event, which comes after more than two decades of construction and a budget exceeding one billion dollars, marks a major step in strengthening Egypt’s cultural tourism sector.

The Grand Egyptian Museum houses a unique collection of over 100,000 artifacts spanning various periods of ancient Egyptian history. Its centerpiece is the complete display of all items discovered in King Tutankhamun’s tomb, exhibited together for the first time in history—a collection of nearly 5,000 pieces, most of which had never been publicly displayed. With the opening of this “Fourth Pyramid” beside the iconic Giza Pyramids, Egypt not only preserves its heritage but presents it to the world in a modern, breathtaking form.
