SAEDNEWS: Yousef Pezeshkian criticized Saeed Jalili’s comparison of post-war U.S. negotiations to calf-worship by the Israelites, calling the analogy misguided and emphasizing that national interest should guide diplomacy—not religious condemnation.
According to the political service of Saed News, quoting Asr-e Iran, in response to Saeed Jalili’s recent tweet in which he likened negotiations with the United States to the Israelites’ worship of the golden calf, Yousef Pezeshkian wrote on the social platform X:
“Decisions regarding negotiations have their proper authorities, and whatever decision the officials make under the guidance of the Leader, we will stand behind it.”
“However, comparing negotiation to calf-worship is inappropriate. Calf-worship represents an absolute denial (of faith), whereas negotiation does not carry a universal ruling. The core principle is the national interest.”
It is worth noting that Saeed Jalili, in a tweet referencing the story of Moses and the Israelites, had compared discussion of negotiations with the United States after the 12-day war to the worship of the golden calf by the Israelites during the absence of Moses.
