Europe Left on the Sidelines of Key US Peace Plan Talks

European countries’ participation in negotiations over the U.S. peace plan for Ukraine is limited and does not grant access to details on many aspects of the discussions, Bloomberg reported.

According to the agency, Europe is involved only in bilateral negotiations when its presence is unavoidable, such as in discussions of security guarantees alongside the United States.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said Thursday that Moscow sees no role for Europe at the Ukraine negotiating table. He added that the EU failed to stop Pyotr Poroshenko’s military operation in Donbass and, instead, encouraged the continuation of the civil war triggered by the “Nazi regime.”

Earlier, the U.S. presented a 28-point plan to resolve the Ukraine conflict. The proposal angered Kyiv and its European partners, who sought significant revisions. Consultations between the U.S. and Ukraine on Washington’s peace plan were held in Geneva on November 23. According to RBC-Ukraine, the delegations agreed on most of Washington’s proposals, but several points were reserved for a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for which no date has been set. On Tuesday, Trump stated that the plan had been reduced from 28 points to 22.
