SAEDNEWS: Australia Adds Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to Its ‘State Sponsors of Terrorism’ List, Foreign Minister Penny Wong Announces
According to the political desk of SaedNews, after the Australian Parliament passed a resolution allowing the government to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, Australia’s foreign, home, and attorney-general ministers issued a joint statement announcing the move.
On August 26, the Australian government, citing baseless claims that Iran orchestrated two anti-Semitic attacks in Sydney and Melbourne, declared Tehran’s ambassador in Canberra, Ahmad Sadeghi, an “unwanted person.” Following the expulsion decision, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the suspension of Canberra’s embassy operations in Tehran, adding that Australian diplomats had been relocated to a third country.

Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong, in remarks today, claimed that “Iran’s attacks were unprecedented and dangerous actions by a foreign country organized on Australian soil.” She added, “The Albanese government has acted more stringently than any previous Australian administration against Iran and will continue efforts to safeguard Australians’ security.”
Under a mid-November parliamentary resolution, the federal government has the authority to list foreign governmental entities as “state sponsors of terrorism.” Australian media report that the ruling Labor Party proposed adding the IRGC to the country’s alleged terrorist list, echoing earlier claims—initially made by Mossad—about the Guard’s involvement in anti-Semitic attacks in Australia.
