SAEDNEWS: The European Union’s foreign policy chief has once again accused Iran of failing to implement its commitments under the JCPOA.

Kallas: We Are Concerned About Iran’s Nuclear Program, Missiles, and Support for Russia!

Kaya Kallas, the EU foreign policy chief, claimed on Friday, ahead of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, that Iran has not fulfilled its obligations under the JCPOA.

According to ISNA, Kallas, speaking to reporters, said, “Regarding Iran, as you know, the snapback mechanism was activated yesterday, and we have entered a new phase.”

She stated that the next 30 days until the activation of this mechanism “are an opportunity to find diplomatic solutions.”

In response to a question about the legality of this action, Kallas claimed: “This has always been Iran’s claim, but if we look at the text of the JCPOA and its conditions, Iran has long failed to comply with its obligations. Therefore, this was the decision of the three European countries, and now we have 30 days to possibly find another solution.”

Kallas’s claim about Iran’s non-compliance comes while Tehran, following the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement and Europe’s inability to secure Iran’s interests, began reducing its commitments under the JCPOA as per the agreement’s text and declared that its actions are reversible if the other party complies with its obligations.

Regarding her conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi, Kallas said: “My recommendation was to use these 30 days to find diplomatic solutions. The concerns about Iran are clear: regarding the nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and support for Russia.”

Iran has repeatedly stated that it will not negotiate on non-JCPOA issues, including defense matters. Tehran has also repeatedly denied claims of supporting Russia in the Ukraine war.

Kallas also claimed regarding the Ukraine war that Russian President Vladimir Putin “mocked any efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.”

She asserted: “Russia does not want peace, as the recent attacks on Kyiv have shown. The only way is to increase pressure so that Russia is forced to accept peace.”

The EU official added: “A new sanctions package is being prepared. Various options are on the table, including energy sanctions, secondary sanctions similar to those of the U.S., and financial restrictions that cut Russia’s access to capital.”
