Russia warns European ‘snapback’ move on Iran sanctions is a grave mistake

According to Saed News, quoting ISNA, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, announced on Thursday evening that the decision of the three European countries to use the so-called “snapback” mechanism and begin the process of reinstating UN sanctions against Iran is a major mistake.

In reaction to the move by the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and Britain—who today officially informed the President of the UN Security Council of the activation of this process—Ulyanov wrote on his Telegram channel: “This is an irresponsible step that will drag the situation into a complete deadlock.”

Ulyanov had previously, on several occasions, warned against the West’s misuse of this mechanism and stressed the need for all parties to return to the negotiation path.
