Iran and IAEA Begin Talks on New Cooperation Framework

According to Saeed News, citing IRNA, Iranian official Mr. Baghai stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran maintains its relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He emphasized that Iran remains a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and is committed to implementing the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.

Baghai added that last week, a meeting at the level of Directors General took place in Vienna. The IAEA Director General, the Director General for Peace and International Security, and the Deputy Director General met with Iranian officials. This meeting followed a discussion held two weeks earlier in Tehran, during which Iran and the IAEA were engaged in consultations to develop a framework for cooperation and interaction.

He stressed that the issue should not be underestimated, noting that the recent illegal attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities is unprecedented, and Iran holds the United States responsible for this action. Additionally, he stated that the IAEA played a role due to its shortcomings in this context, as it had never before been involved in inspections of sites that were subjected to unlawful attacks by another country.

Baghai concluded that it is natural at this stage for Iran to draft a new program and define a fresh approach with the IAEA, and Iranian colleagues are actively pursuing and preparing this plan.
