The ninth of Dhu al-Hijjah is called the Day of Arafah. Its rulings have been discussed in the chapters of purification, prayer, fasting, and pilgrimage.
The Ninth Day of the Month, Which Is the Day of Arafah and One of the Great Eid Festivals; It Is Reported From Imam Sadiq (Peace Be Upon Him) That Whoever On The Day of Arafah Performs Two Units of Prayer Before Turning To Supplication And Confesses To God Under The Sky About His Sins And Acknowledges His Mistakes, Will Attain The Reward of The People of Arafat, And His Past And Future Sins Will Be Forgiven. Sheikh Mufid Mentioned This Prayer After The Asr Prayer And Said That This Prayer Is Especially For Those Who Are Nearby But Not Present In Arafat. Then They Should Engage In The Rituals and Supplications of Arafah Narrated From The Pure Imams. These Rituals and Prayers Are Too Numerous To Be Fully Listed Here, But We Will Convey As Much As This Book Can Contain.
Virtue of The Day of Arafah
The Day of Arafah Is One of The Most Virtuous Days. It Is Recommended To Occupy Oneself With Supplication After The Dhuhr and Asr Prayers And Also To Gather With People For Supplication On This Day.
Visiting Imam Hussain On The Day of Arafah
Among The Recommended Acts Of The Day of Arafah Is Visiting Imam Hussain (Peace Be Upon Him).
How To Perform The Prayer of The Day of Arafah?
Sheikh Kaf’ami In The Book "Misbah" Said:
For One Who Does Not Find Difficulty In Supplication, Fasting On The Day of Arafah Is Recommended, And It Is Sunnah To Perform A Ritual Bath (Ghusl) Before Zawal (The Time When The Sun Reaches Its Zenith, Official Noon Time). Visiting Imam Hussain (Peace Be Upon Him) On The Day And Night of Arafah Is Also Recommended.
When The Time of Zawal Arrives, One Should Go Outside Under The Sky And Perform The Dhuhr And Asr Prayers With Proper Bowing And Prostration. After Completing These Prayers, One Should Pray Two Units (Rak’ahs):
In The First Unit, After Surah Al-Fatiha, Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas (Surah Tawhid),
And In The Second Unit, After Al-Fatiha, Recite Surah Al-Kafirun.
Then Perform Four Additional Units Of Prayer, Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas Fifty Times In Each Unit After Al-Fatiha.
The Poor Man Says:
This Prayer Is The Same As The "Prayer of The Commander of The Faithful" (Imam Ali).
Then Sheikh Kaf’ami Said:
Recite The Tasbih (Glorifications) Narrated From The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him And His Family), Which Sayyid Ibn Tawus Recorded In "Iqbal" After The Prayer:
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى فِى السَّماءِ عَرْشُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى فِى الْأَرْضِ حُکْمُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى فِى الْقُبُورِ قَضاؤُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى فِى الْبَحْرِ سَبِیلُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى فِى النَّارِ سُلْطانُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى فِى الْجَنَّهِ رَحْمَتُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى فِى الْقِیامَهِ عَدْلُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى رَفَعَ السَّماءَ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى بَسَطَ الْأَرْضَ
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِى لَامَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجٰا مِنْهُ إِلّا إِلَیْهِ
Glory Be To The One Whose Throne Is In The Heaven,
Glory Be To The One Whose Dominion Is On The Earth,
Glory Be To The One Whose Decree Is In The Graves,
Glory Be To The One Whose Path Is In The Sea,
Glory Be To The One Whose Authority Is In The Fire,
Glory Be To The One Whose Mercy Is In Paradise,
Glory Be To The One Whose Justice Is On The Day of Resurrection,
Glory Be To The One Who Raised The Heavens,
Glory Be To The One Who Spread Out The Earth,
Glory Be To The One From Whom There Is No Refuge Nor Escape Except To Him.
Then Say One Hundred Times:
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَلَا إِلٰهَ إِلّا اللّٰهُ وَاللّٰهُ أَکْبَرُ
Glory Be To God, And Praise Be To God, There Is No Deity Except God, And God Is The Greatest.
Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas One Hundred Times, Ayat al-Kursi (The Throne Verse) One Hundred Times, Send Blessings On Muhammad And His Family One Hundred Times, And Say Ten Times:
لَاإِلٰهَ إِلّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَاشَرِیکَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْکُ ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ،
یُحْیِى وَیُمِیتُ ، وَیُمِیتُ وَیُحْیِى ، وَهُوَ حَیٌّ لَایَمُوتُ ،
بِیَدِهِ الْخَیْرُ ، وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ کُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِیرٌ.
There Is No God But Allah Alone, With No Partner, To Him Belongs The Sovereignty And Praise. He Gives Life And Causes Death, Causes Death And Gives Life, And He Is Ever-Living, Never Dying. In His Hand Is All Good, And He Has Power Over All Things.
Then Say Ten Times:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ الَّذِى لَاإِلٰهَ إِلّا هُوَ الْحَىُّ الْقَیُّومُ وَأَ تُوبُ إِلَیْهِ.
I Seek Forgiveness From Allah, There Is No God But Him, The Ever-Living, The Sustainer, And I Repent To Him.
Then Say Ten Times:
یَا اللَّهُ
یَا رَحْمَنُ
یَا رَحِیمُ
یَا بَدِیعَ السَّماواتِ وَالْأَرْضِ یَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالْإِکْرامِ.
O Allah,
O Most Merciful,
O Most Compassionate,
O Creator of The Heavens And The Earth, O Possessor of Majesty And Honor.
Then Ten Times:
یَا حَیُّ یَا قَیُّومُ
(O Ever-Living, O Sustainer)
Ten Times:
یَا حَنَّانُ یَا مَنَّانُ
(O Most Kind, O Bestower)
Ten Times:
یَا لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ
(There Is No God But You)
Answer My Prayer.
Then Say:
اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَلُکَ یَا مَنْ هُوَ أَقْرَبُ إِلَىَّ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِیدِ ،
یَا مَنْ یَحُولُ بَیْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ ،
یَا مَنْ هُوَ بِالْمَنْظَرِ الْأَعْلىٰ وَبِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِینِ ،
یَا مَنْ هُوَ الرَّحْمٰنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوىٰ ،
یَا مَنْ لَیْسَ کَمِثْلِهِ شَىْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِیعُ الْبَصِیرُ ،
أَسْأَلُکَ أَنْ تُصَلِّىَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ.
O Allah, I Ask You, O The One Who Is Closer To Me Than My Jugular Vein,
O The One Who Intervenes Between A Person And His Heart,
O The One Who Is In The Highest View And The Clear Horizon,
O The One Who Is The Most Merciful And Established Upon The Throne,
O The One For Whom There Is Nothing Like Him, And He Is The All-Hearing, The All-Seeing,
I Ask You To Send Blessings Upon Muhammad And The Family Of Muhammad.
Ask For Your Need Because It Will Be Granted By The Will Of God. Then Recite The Blessings Upon Muhammad And His Family Narrated From Imam Sadiq (Peace Be Upon Him), Saying Whoever Wishes To Please Muhammad And His Family By Sending Blessings Upon Them, Should Say:
اللّٰهُمَّ یَا أَجْوَدَ مَنْ أَعْطىٰ ، وَیَا خَیْرَ مَنْ سُئِلَ ، وَیَا أَرْحَمَ مَنِ اسْتُرْحِمَ .
اللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ فِى الْأَوَّلِینَ ، وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ فِى الْآخِرِینَ
، وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ فِى الْمَلَاَ الْأَعْلىٰ ، وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ فِى الْمُرْسَلِینَ .
اللّٰهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُحَمَّداً وَآلَهُ الْوَسِیلَهَ وَالْفَضِیلَهَ وَالشَّرَفَ وَالرِّفْعَهَ وَالدَّرَجَهَ الْکَبِیرَهَ .
اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّى آمَنْتُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَآلِهِ وَلَمْ أَرَهُ فَلا تَحْرِمْنِى فِى الْقِیامَهِ رُؤْیَتَهُ ،
وَارْزُقْنِى صُحْبَتَهُ ، وَتَوَفَّنِى عَلَىٰ مِلَّتِهِ ، وَاسْقِنِى مِنْ حَوْضِهِ مَشْرَباً رَوِیّاً سائِغاً
هَنِیئاً لَاأَظْمَأُ بَعْدَهُ أَبَداً ، إِنَّکَ عَلَىٰ کُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِیرٌ .
اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّى آمَنْتُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَآلِهِ وَلَمْ أَرَهُ فَعَرِّفْنِى فِى الْجِنانِ وَجْهَهُ .
اللّٰهُمَّ بَلِّغْ مُحَمَّداً صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَآلِهِ مِنِّى تَحِیَّهً کَثِیرَهً وَسَلاماً.
O Allah, O Most Generous Who Gives, O Best Of Those Who Are Asked, And O Most Merciful Of Those Who Are Shown Mercy,
O Allah, Send Blessings On Muhammad And His Family Among The First Ones, And Send Blessings On Muhammad And His Family Among The Last Ones,
And Send Blessings On Muhammad And His Family Among The Highest Assemblies, And Send Blessings On Muhammad And His Family Among The Messengers.
O Allah, Grant Muhammad And His Family The Intercession, The Favor, The Honor, The Elevation, And The Great Rank.
O Allah, I Believe In Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him And His Family) Though I Have Not Seen Him, So Do Not Deprive Me Of Seeing Him On The Day Of Judgment,
Grant Me His Companionship, Cause Me To Die Following His Religion, And Give Me To Drink From His Basin, A Refreshing And Delightful Drink After Which I Shall Never Thirst Again. Indeed, You Have Power Over All Things.
O Allah, I Believe In Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him And His Family) Though I Have Not Seen Him, So Let Me Recognize His Face In Paradise.
O Allah, Convey Many Greetings And Peace From Me To Muhammad And His Family.
Giving Charity On The Day of Arafah
Giving Charity On The Day of Arafah Has A Multiplied Reward Compared To Other Days.
Asking Needs From Others Besides God On The Day of Arafah
It Is Disliked To Ask For Needs From Anyone Other Than
God On This Day, And One Should Solely Turn To God.
Supplication For Forgiveness
On This Day, It Is Highly Recommended To Ask For Forgiveness, To Perform Good Deeds, And To Recite The Quran.
