SAEDNEWS: A powerful explosion tore through the Spegazzini Industrial Park in Ezeiza, Argentina, shattering windows across nearby neighborhoods and triggering evacuations as officials investigated the cause.
Videos on social media showed flames rising high above an industrial site and a shockwave sweeping through nearby areas.
Residents in Ezeiza and Cañuelas reported feeling the impact, with some telling local media they saw an object fall from the sky moments before the explosion.
Multiple factories within the complex were affected.
Ezeiza Mayor Gastón Granados said the cause of the fire and its origin remain unknown.
“The flames affected several plants in the industrial park,” he said. “One of them is a chemical plant, where warehouses caught fire and where there are facilities related to agriculture and fertilizers. There is also a plastics plant called Plásticos Lago.”
Granados described the scene as chaotic, with emergency crews working to secure the area and evacuate nearby residents.
“It’s all very confusing,” he told TimesNowNews. “We’re trying to ensure safety in the area and evacuate anyone nearby. Fire crews are working to combat the intense blaze across the site.”
He added that officials “cannot confirm or deny that a plane crashed” until the fire is fully under control.
Fifteen fire crews responded to the emergency.
The shockwave damaged homes in surrounding neighborhoods. “The windows of my house and the neighborhood were shattered. We are evacuating families who live nearby,” Granados said.
The owner of Sinteplast, a factory inside the park, said his plant was not the source of the fire.
“The explosion destroyed everything—gates, ceilings, some structures, and fire pipes were blown off,” he told TN. “Fire brigades are on the scene. It was a terrible explosion. It didn’t reach our factory, but the shockwave shook everything.”
Authorities have reported no confirmed injuries or fatalities. Emergency teams continue assessing the damage.
