Israeli Regime Intensifies Attacks on Gaza-Bound Sumud Flotilla Amid Worldwide Outrage

Early Wednesday, the Global Sumud Flotilla came under a wave of coordinated attacks as drones hovered overhead, jamming communications and unleashing explosions near the humanitarian vessels. At least nine ships were struck by flashbangs, with six sustaining direct hits and one rigging system destroyed. Unidentified chemicals were reportedly poured onto the Yulara, while additional blasts shook surrounding waters.

Brazilian activist Thiago Avila, sailing with the flotilla, described a tenth explosion near the fleet, warning that “they are using devices that can injure people and damage the boats.” Despite the escalating danger, he emphasized: “We continue our mission because we know it’s the right thing to do.”

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese condemned the attacks, demanding “immediate international attention and protection.” She noted that the flotilla had been targeted repeatedly, with boats sprayed with suspected chemicals, radios jammed, and distress calls blocked.

Former US Army Ranger Greg Stoker, aboard the flotilla, accused Israel of attempting to distract from its ongoing assault in Gaza, warning: “This will likely happen every night as Gaza faces the final solution.”

Mission organizers described the escalation as “alarmingly dangerous,” reporting 13 explosions, over 15 low-altitude drone flights, and repeated chemical drops. Invoking international law and the Geneva Conventions, the flotilla warned that Israel’s actions “constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity” and urged the UN General Assembly to address the attacks during its 80th session.

Avila called the assaults “more severe and more dangerous,” highlighting Israel’s use of psychological warfare. “This is a humanitarian, non-violent solidarity mission,” he said. “We are bringing food and aid to open a humanitarian corridor. We are part of the conscience of the world that knows starving children cannot be left without food.”

Irish actor Liam Cunningham, following the flotilla, denounced the attacks as “criminal behavior in international waters” by the “genocidal Tel Aviv regime,” insisting: “The world has to stop this criminal behavior.”

With activists from 44 countries aboard, the flotilla continues its voyage toward Gaza, defying Israel’s threats and escalating intimidation, standing as a symbol of global solidarity and humanitarian resolve.
