According to the politics section of Saed News, 65 years ago on Yalda night, an extravagant and costly wedding took place—one whose expenses were covered by the people of Iran.

The young woman, now dressed in a bridal gown and who not long ago had to work as a nanny in French households in Paris to cover her living and education expenses, had changed so much that when she visited a famous Parisian salon, she expressed her desire for the salon’s makeup artists to travel to Tehran to do her wedding makeup!

The student girl, once a staunch supporter of the poor, now frequented chic boutiques, haute couture stores, and renowned fashion houses in Paris, shopping on the royal budget.

Her mother was so overjoyed about her daughter’s wedding to the Shah of Iran that during shopping trips in Paris, she sang loudly and clapped along to the music, attracting the attention of passersby.

Thus, the impoverished girl introduced to the Shah by Ardeshir Zahedi became Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s third wife. On 20 December 1959 (29 Azar 1338 in the Iranian calendar), a lavish wedding ceremony was held at Golestan Palace—the historic and traditional residence of the Qajar dynasty—to celebrate the marriage of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Farah Diba.
