Elon Musk: New Starlink Satellite Internet Requires No Additional Equipment for Your Phone

According to SaedNews, Elon Musk reiterated in response to a post on social media platform X that the Direct to Cell Starlink service allows users to access satellite internet without any additional equipment or applications. This service is expected to launch soon.

In response to content creator Mario Nafal, who mentioned that the Direct to Cell service would soon launch globally, Musk wrote: "The new Starlink system provides satellite internet access for your mobile phone without any additional equipment or apps."

The new Starlink satellite internet is expected to launch soon.

In Nafal's post, it was mentioned that SpaceX would collaborate with major telecom companies in various countries, including T-Mobile in the US, Rogers in Canada, KDDI in Japan, Salt in Switzerland, Optus in Australia, and One NZ in New Zealand, to provide this service.

Yesterday, SpaceX launched 12 more Direct to Cell satellites into orbit, bringing the total number of these satellites to over 320 and effectively completing the first phase of the DTC satellite network. With this launch, SpaceX now has enough DTC satellites to offer coverage of its service to users.

The official SpaceX page on the social media platform X mentioned the launch of DTC satellites in a post, stating: "Today's launch of 12 Starlink satellites with Direct to Cell capability will provide reliable text services wherever you are in the world." Initially, this service will only support text messaging.

The Chief Satellite Engineer at SpaceX mentioned after the previous DTC satellite launch that only one more launch was needed to complete the initial constellation of satellites for commercial use of this service. However, with the completion of this constellation, the launch of Direct to Cell satellites will not end. The engineer previously stated that the company would continue launching and improving this service to enhance the coverage and reduce the latency of satellite internet with this network.
