SAEDNEWS: Al-Azhar said the move reflects an “arrogant, violent policy of humiliating nations” while disregarding all international laws and charters.
Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Egypt’s largest Islamic scientific institution, has condemned Israel’s decision to take over Gaza City, calling it “an ineradicable stigma of shame” for the international community and its institutions, which it said have failed to act against such crimes.
In a statement carried by Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper early on Sunday, Al-Azhar said the move reflects an “arrogant, violent policy of humiliating nations” while disregarding all international laws and charters,
The statement warned that the attempt to seize Gaza aims to erase the Palestinian identity of the territory and remove it from the map.
The institution urged Arab, Islamic, and international actors to coordinate efforts and intensify pressure to halt what it described as a “historic catastrophe.”
It stressed the need for a firm response to Israel’s attempts to alter realities on the ground, warning that such actions threaten the stability of the entire region.
On Friday, Israel’s war cabinet approved a plot to capture Gaza City and tighten its grip on the besieged Gaza Strip, a move that sparked immediate global condemnation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also said that the regime sought to “take control” of the entire Gaza Strip, which has been under constant Israeli bombardment since October 2023.
