A Collection of Images Showing the Interesting Costumes and Makeup of a Street Theater Troupe During the Qajar Era / What a Cool Group They Were

According to the history section of Saed News, quoting Didban Iran, here are some rarely seen images of certain women from the Qajar era who posed in men’s clothing for the camera.

Wearing men’s clothing was not considered a very respectable act for women during the Qajar period. However, there are photos from that time showing some women and teenage girls dressed in men’s attire.

These individuals were usually members of musical groups or theatrical troupes. In fact, these professions themselves were generally not regarded as highly honorable or respectable by most people at the time, and perhaps for this reason, such individuals were less concerned about conforming to societal norms.
