SAEDNEWS: Belgium’s Car Cemetery – An Introduction, History, Photos, and Images of the Abandoned Car Graveyard
According to Saednews, Believe it or not, the strange and mysterious images you are about to see are not scenes from The Walking Dead. Instead, we are taking a look at one of the world’s largest car graveyards: the Chatillon Car Graveyard in Belgium.
According to an urban legend, these cars were abandoned by American soldiers during World War II. During the war, the soldiers were unable to transport the vehicles back to the United States by ship. As a result, they supposedly decided to hide the cars among the trees of the forest, planning to return for them when the opportunity arose. However, local residents dispute this story, claiming that the site was simply a dumping ground for old and abandoned vehicles created after World War II.
In the past, there were four separate car graveyards in the area, containing around 500 abandoned and non-functional vehicles. Unfortunately, most of the cars were either stolen or removed by local residents. Eventually, in 2010, the graveyards were cleared from the area due to environmental concerns.
Although the car graveyards are gone today, photographs of them remain, allowing us to take a fascinating look back at this eerie piece of history.
