Iran Urges UN to Hold the US and Israel Accountable for Alleged War Crimes

According to Saednews, The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva said on Monday that Iran remains committed to highlighting the experiences of victims and survivors of what it described as acts of aggression by the United States and Israel.

The statement was published on X as the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) got underway.

In its message marking the opening of the session, the Iranian mission said it would continue efforts to ensure that the voices of those affected by the attacks are heard.

It also emphasized that the Human Rights Council has a mandate to address human rights and humanitarian violations resulting from armed conflicts, including what it described as deliberate and indiscriminate attacks against civilian infrastructure and targets in Iran.

The mission highlighted attacks on a school in Minab, in Hormozgan Province, and a sports complex in Lamerd, in Fars Province. According to the statement, dozens of civilians were killed in the incidents, which Iran characterized as clear violations of international humanitarian law and war crimes.

The Iranian mission said Tehran would continue to pursue accountability and justice while calling for stronger protection of civilians.

The 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council opened on Monday and is scheduled to continue through October 7.

Iran also said that the United States and Israel began their latest military offensive against the country on February 28, following what Tehran described as earlier unprovoked attacks.
