SAEDNEWS: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has ridiculed US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over his recent remarks, accusing him of backing away from his earlier claims about the impact of new sanctions on Iran.

According to Saednews, Bessent had previously claimed that the new US sanctions against Iran would be as powerful and decisive as the Normandy landings, also known as D-Day.

However, during a press conference the following day, a reporter challenged the substance of that claim. Bessent then appeared to soften his position, asking: “Do I want to blow up the world economy?”

Responding to the remarks, Ghalibaf wrote on his X account: “This was nothing like the Normandy landings; it was a ridiculous stand-up comedy act at a nightclub, where you even forgot your own punchlines!”

The Iranian parliament speaker ended his post with the hashtag “Day of the Clown,” sharply criticizing what he characterized as contradictory statements by the US official.
