SAEDNEWS: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called on members of the UN Security Council, specifically China and Russia, to take a firm stance in condemning US‑Israeli aggression against Iran and to prevent the continued exploitation of the Council by the United States
According to SAEDNEWS, In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi discussed regional developments and the consequences of the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran.
The Chinese foreign minister reaffirmed his country’s principled stance in condemning the US-Israeli military actions, expressed condolences over the martyrdom of Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani, and described him as an intelligent, distinguished, and patriotic figure who played a key role in securing Iran’s national security and regional stability.
Araqchi characterized the US-Israeli attacks as the main cause of the current regional tensions and stressed Iran’s determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity until all objectives are achieved, vowing to make the aggressors regret their actions.
He noted that insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is a direct result of US and Israeli military aggression. Araqchi emphasized that Iran’s measures are in line with international law and aim to protect its sovereignty, national security, and prevent the misuse of the Strait of Hormuz for hostile actions against Iran.
According to Araqchi, the Strait of Hormuz is closed to American and Israeli vessels and other parties involved in the aggression, while the movement of ships from other countries is coordinated with Iranian authorities.
The Iranian official strongly condemned actions by the United States and some Security Council members that pressure Iran, stating that the Council has ignored the root cause of the crisis—the US-Israeli aggression—and unfairly criticized Iran, which is defending itself. He called on Security Council members, particularly China and Russia, to take a firm stance against continued exploitation of the Council by the US.
Responding, Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s position condemning the illegal attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, emphasizing the need to halt hegemonic behaviors and resolve disputes through diplomacy and international law.
The US and Israeli regime launched a large-scale, unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, alongside senior military commanders and civilians, on February 28. The attacks included extensive airstrikes on both military and civilian sites across Iran, resulting in significant casualties and widespread damage.
In retaliation, the Iranian Armed Forces have targeted American and Israeli positions in occupied territories and regional bases using missiles and drones.
