Dangerous Consequences of Ignoring the Thyroid and Stopping Medication on Your Own

According to SAEDNEWS, endocrinology subspecialist Azra Karim Koshtah explained that iodine is a rare element that enters the body through food and plays an important role in the function of thyroid hormones. She added that thyroid hormones are essential for neurological and sexual development as well as regulating the body’s metabolic rate.

She stated that fatigue and weakness, weight gain, sensitivity to cold, and constipation are symptoms of hypothyroidism, while palpitations, anxiety, unexplained weight loss, hand tremors, excessive sweating, and hot flashes are symptoms of hyperthyroidism. She emphasized that individuals with such symptoms or a genetic history of thyroid disease should see a doctor.

Karim Koshtah also noted that all women with thyroid disorders should undergo thyroid testing before planning pregnancy and ensure their condition is under control. If pregnancy occurs, thyroid function should be checked immediately and regular medical follow-ups must be maintained throughout pregnancy.

She stressed that thyroid disorders have a direct impact on the risk of premature birth and miscarriage.
