According to the Saed News analytical outlet, a store employee at the “Goodwill” charity shop in Stafford, Virginia, was sorting through donated books when they suddenly noticed a snake inside one of the boxes. They immediately contacted the local sheriff’s office for assistance in removing the unexpected visitor from the store.

Captain J. E. Bice, a wildlife control specialist, along with several colleagues from the Stafford Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to the scene.

Captain Bice removed the snake from among the donated books inside the charity shop, carried it outside, and released it back into the wild.

He later shared a photo of the snake on social media and, without identifying the species, joked that the snake—native to the area—had likely been seeking shade and a cooler place to escape the intensifying summer heat, adding that “what better place than a box of books!”
