SaedNews: Carl Runefelt, known as “Carl Moon,” has warned about an unprecedented crisis of declining views and indifference among retail audiences in 2026. Despite Bitcoin reaching record prices, Google Trends statistics and widespread layoffs at exchanges such as Coinbase indicate a structural shift in the cryptocurrency economy.
According to SAEDNEWS, famous analyst Carl Runefelt, known as “Carl Moon,” revealed in a new interview that views on cryptocurrency-related videos have experienced an unprecedented collapse. Unlike previous periods, even when Bitcoin was trading around $76,500, user engagement declined sharply.
This situation reflects a structural change in the crypto content creator economy, where despite rising prices, creators are facing severe indifference from retail audiences. Runefelt told BeInCrypto:
“Even at the bottom of the 2018 bear market, my views were more than double what I am receiving right now.”
Published statistics show that during the peak of the 2021 cycle, this YouTuber’s videos averaged between 100,000 and 200,000 views; however, in early 2026, that figure dropped to between 15,000 and 20,000 views. This decline has occurred despite the significant growth in his channel subscribers over the past seven years.
Data from Google Trends also confirms that interest in searching the term “bitcoin” has reached its lowest level in a year.
This crisis is not limited to social media and has also affected the operational sectors of the industry. Runefelt pointed out that even major exchanges, which are usually profitable under any conditions, are now facing difficulties.
For example, Coinbase eliminated around 700 positions, while Crypto.com also laid off 12% of its workforce. These signs suggest that the cryptocurrency market is going through a “cleansing” phase aimed at removing projects and individuals who entered solely for short-term profit.
Benjamin Cowen, an on-chain data analyst, published a chart of Bitcoin’s social risk, showing that unlike previous cycles characterized by excitement and euphoria, the current cycle has reached its peak with a sense of “indifference.” This has caused content creators such as Carl Runefelt to expand their activities into other sectors, including motorsports and music, in order to reduce their complete dependence on the cryptocurrency market.
