Bryce Eldridge Heading to San Francisco — Rookie Reinforcements Arrive With 13 Games Left!

The San Francisco Giants will promote Bryce Eldridge — the club’s top prospect and the team’s 2023 first-round pick (No. 16 overall) — from Triple-A Sacramento, a source confirmed Sunday evening. The team had not yet made an official announcement.

Timing and context

Eldridge

Eldridge, 20, will travel to Phoenix on Monday to join the Giants as they play the first games of a 13-game road trip with 13 regular-season contests remaining. San Francisco (75-74) is embroiled in a tight National League wild-card chase, 1.5 games behind the New York Mets for the third and final NL wild-card spot after a recent series loss to the Dodgers. The Giants are also a half-game ahead of Arizona and 2.5 games ahead of St. Louis in the race.

Why Eldridge now?

The promotion follows a right hamstring strain to first baseman Dominic Smith that is likely to end Smith’s regular season. It is not yet clear how Eldridge — who is still learning the finer points of playing first base — will be deployed once he joins the big-league roster.

Eldridge’s 2025 journey

The top pick in San Francisco’s 2023 draft began 2025 at Double-A Richmond after recovering from a wrist injury. In 34 games at Richmond he hit seven homers and posted an .862 OPS, earning a promotion to Triple-A Sacramento. Despite missing some time with a hamstring issue of his own, Eldridge has slashed .249/.322/.514 across 66 games with 18 homers and 63 RBIs in the minors this season. In September alone he has produced an .846 OPS over 12 games with two homers and nine RBIs.

Road trip and schedule

The Giants’ upcoming road trip features three games in Arizona against the Diamondbacks and four games at Dodger Stadium, a critical stretch in their bid for postseason qualification. After that swing the club will finish the season at Oracle Park with series against the Cardinals and the Rockies.
