Hamedan Traditional Bazaar: Exploring One of Iran’s Iconic Market

The Bazaar of Hamadan is a vibrant labyrinth of 30 distinct rows or sections, each dedicated to a specific trade or craft. Visitors can wander through areas once occupied by confectioners, butchers, pea-roasters, tin-makers, bookbinders, shoemakers, and dealers in second-hand goods. Most alleys are open to the sky, with the notable exception of the path leading to the Jame’ Mosque.

Comprising roughly 24 arcades, the bazaar reflects its significance in the city’s past. Among its various alleys are those for goldsmiths, chest-makers, locksmiths, butchers, confectioners, bookbinders, glassware, tin-makers, haberdashers, shoemakers, rope-makers, and others named after Felestin, Hossain Khani, Haj Fazlolah, Golshan, and the city’s tanneries, as well as the historic passage to the Jame’ Mosque.
