Just like going to the gym revitalizes your body, yoga can also enhance your facial muscles, giving you a youthful and radiant look.
According to Saed News Family Magazine, constant facial expressions, such as frowning, can lead to wrinkles over time. Many people resort to surgeries or injections to combat these signs of aging. However, facial yoga claims to provide a natural lifting effect without the need for expensive skincare products or surgical procedures. Some dermatologists support this claim. Dr. Deborah Longwill, a dermatologist, states that the goal of facial yoga is to boost blood circulation and oxygen flow to the skin, resulting in a brighter and more youthful appearance.
Reduces tension lines
Strengthens facial muscles, enhancing eye openness, lifting cheeks, and tightening the jawline
Improves blood circulation, making the skin glow
Smooths out fine lines and wrinkles
Counters the effects of gravity
Some experts believe that facial yoga, as an anti-aging practice, may have the opposite effect. They argue that excessive stretching and repetitive facial muscle movements, like those involved in smiling or frowning, could contribute to the formation of wrinkles rather than preventing them.
These five exercises were featured in a JAMA Dermatology study. To start, practice them for five minutes daily, gradually increasing to 15 minutes as part of your skincare routine. If you're concerned about potential risks, keep the exercises brief.
Open your mouth into an "O" shape and tuck your upper lip over your teeth.
Smile to lift your cheek muscles upward.
Place your index fingers just below your eyes, on top of the cheek muscles.
Relax your cheeks and let them drop, then smile again, trying to push the muscles toward your eyes.
Repeat this movement 10 times. On the last repetition, hold the lift for 20 seconds.
Repeat the entire set three times.
Smile without showing your teeth, rolling your lips outward as much as possible.
Try to smile using just the corners of your mouth until you feel a slight tension.
Place your index fingers at the corners of your mouth, then slide them upward along your cheekbones.
Lift the muscles up toward your temples.
Hold at the top for 20 seconds while maintaining the smile.
Repeat three times.
Place three fingertips from each hand under your eyebrows and gently push up.
Lower your eyebrows against the resistance of your fingers while smiling.
Close your eyes and roll your eyeballs upward.
Hold for 20 seconds, then release.
Repeat three times.
Open your mouth and make an "Ahhh" sound.
Tuck your lips and corners of your mouth inward and push your lower jaw forward.
Slowly scoop your lower jaw upward, lifting your chin about two centimeters with each movement.
Tilt your head back slightly.
Repeat 10 times, and on the last repetition, hold your chin up toward the ceiling for 20 seconds.
Repeat three times.
While closing your jaw, press your fingertips against your temples.
Gently clench your teeth while tilting your chin slightly upward.
Focus on your temples and imagine pulling your ears backward.
Hold for 10 seconds, then clench your back teeth and hold for another 10 seconds.
Your temple muscles should contract with each movement.
Relax and repeat three times.
By incorporating facial yoga into your routine, you can naturally tone and lift your face, enhancing its youthful appearance. However, it's essential to perform these exercises correctly and moderately to avoid unwanted side effects.
