SAEDNEWS: There is a virus in the human body that affects human behavior and the mind, leading to slowed thinking and cognitive impairment in humans.
Slowed thinking and reduced learning ability have a wide range of causes. Sometimes they originate before birth, or they appear after birth due to health problems. However, in addition to these known factors, researchers have recently discovered a virus that can cause mental slowness.

It appears that our bodies are home to billions of bacteria, collectively known as the human microbiome, which influence every aspect of our physical and mental health. There is also a human virus called chlorovirus ATCV-1 that can live in our bodies. We know much less about the collection of viruses that naturally reside in us, but it seems they may have a significant impact on our behavior.
A study on this topic suggests that a virus commonly found in freshwater algae can cause mild cognitive impairment in humans. This research shows that the microorganisms living in our bodies may have effects far greater than previously expected.

In an experiment conducted on individuals who were similar in age and level of education, those who had this virus present in their throat showed lower cognitive performance compared to volunteers who did not carry the virus. Overall, these individuals performed worse in visual processing and visual reaction speed.
To confirm their findings, researchers tested the virus on laboratory mice. The results indicated that the virus was able to cross the blood–brain barrier and alter the activity of certain brain genes. These genes affect neurotransmitters, including dopamine.

Scientists cannot directly measure how individuals respond to this virus, but researchers have previously detected effects of this virus in the brains of deceased humans. Scientists are also exploring ways to improve human behavior by modifying the composition of the microbiome.
