According to Saed News, quoting Eghtesad Online, a geology specialist has shared shocking footage showing the moment a one-and-a-half-meter-long alligator was extracted from the stomach of a 5.5-meter Burmese python.

Rosie Moore, 26, and a team of scientists were seen carefully removing the still-intact alligator from the monstrous snake in their Florida laboratory.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Moore said the incident highlights the massive problem of invasive pythons in the Everglades, which typically prey on small mammals and reptiles.

She explained that they were able to study the creature because it had been killed after being captured by field workers. “They contacted us, saying there was a large object in the python’s stomach. When the alligator was discovered during the snake’s dissection, it was definitely shocking. It was the first time I had ever seen anything like this—never a python with something like that inside it,” Moore said.

Burmese pythons reproduce quickly and can camouflage themselves in their environment, making it nearly impossible for anyone to know exactly where they are or how many exist, Moore added.

In the media, female scientists are often portrayed as shy characters. But Moore, who is also a model, said, “I think it’s important for young women to see that this isn’t true, and that being a scientist can actually be an exciting ambition.”

She added, “In that sense, I think I’m doing a good job showing both sides of my life, embracing my feminine side, while still being able to wear my field gear, go out, and get dirty collecting data.”

Given the complexity of the problem, there are few simple solutions to prevent Burmese pythons from preying in the Everglades. Moore jokingly noted that some Instagram users suggested bringing jaguars to the Everglades to hunt them.

In fact, as Moore wrote on Instagram, “Considering South Florida’s subtropical environment, along with the long lifespan and rapid reproduction of Burmese pythons, these snakes have successfully invaded sensitive ecological areas, including Everglades National Park.”
