Melted butter

1/2 cup

Steps to make croissants with homemade dough; quick and delicious:

  1. Sift flour twice into a large bowl.

  2. Mix sugar, yeast, and salt with the flour.

  3. Crack the egg and separate the yolk from the white.

  4. Add the egg white to the sifted flour.

  5. Place the egg yolk in the fridge to use as an egg wash later.

  6. Gradually add warm water to the mixture, ensuring the dough doesn’t become too loose.

  7. Knead the dough slightly until it no longer sticks to your hands or the sides of the bowl.

  8. Once the dough is formed, add the vegetable oil and knead for 5 more minutes until the oil is absorbed and the dough is smooth and uniform.

  9. Grease a large bowl that’s double the size of your dough with oil and place the dough in it.

  10. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for one hour at room temperature to rise.

  11. After an hour, remove the dough from the bowl, knead it again slightly to deflate it, then divide it into two equal parts.

  12. Divide each half into six equal pieces, then round each piece into a ball.

  13. Sprinkle flour on your work surface and roll the dough into thin sheets using a rolling pin.

  14. Brush each sheet with melted butter using a brush.

  15. Stack the dough sheets on top of each other, then place the stack in a container.

  16. Transfer the container to the freezer for 10 minutes to let the dough rest.

  17. After 10 minutes, remove the dough from the freezer and transfer it to your work surface.

  18. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough until its thickness is about half a centimeter.

  19. Cut the dough into equal triangles using a cutter or knife.

  20. Roll the dough from the edge to form croissants and place them on a baking tray.

  21. Cover the croissants with a clean cloth and let them rest for 15 minutes.

  22. After 15 minutes, beat the egg yolk and brush it onto the croissants.

  23. Place a metal stand in the center of a pot on the stove so the tray can sit on top.

  24. Heat the pot from underneath until it’s hot.

  25. Grease a baking tray and place the croissants with space between them on the tray.

  26. Select a tray that fits inside the pot and place it on the stand inside.

  27. Cover the pot with a lid to bake the croissants properly.

  28. Bake the croissants for 40 to 50 minutes over medium heat.

  29. Remove the croissants from the pot and serve them in a dish.

  30. Garnish the croissants with chocolate sauce and seasonal fruits before serving.

Tips for making homemade croissants:

  • The water used should not be too hot because hot water can cause the yeast to lose its properties.

  • Add water gradually. Too much water will make the dough loose, and your croissants won't bake properly.

  • If you have leftover dough and don't want to bake it immediately, you can store the dough in an airtight container or a freezer bag for up to 3 months in the freezer.

  • For chocolate croissants, you can use chocolate chunks as the filling.

  • For cheese croissants, you can replace chocolate with cheese.

  • Instead of making the dough from scratch, you can use pre-made doughs like yufka or puff pastry dough for a quicker version.
