SAEDNEWS: Babak Tafreshi, an Iranian night-sky photographer, captured images on one of the clearest observational nights at Haleakalā National Park, showcasing a slender crescent moon framed by unusual cumulus clouds and supercell storms. These moments blend astronomy with the art of photography, creating a striking visual narrative of the sky.

The Moon Amid Stormy Clouds: A Thrilling Sky Spectacle

According to the science section of SaedNews, on one of the clearest nights for stargazing in Haleakalā National Park, renowned night-sky photographer Babak Tafreshi captured images that blur the line between reality and imagination. During the event, a thin crescent moon, descending toward the Pacific horizon, became entangled in a mass of cumulus clouds with strange and surreal shapes.

Tafreshi, who shot the images from an elevation of 3,050 meters above sea level, considers this location one of the best in the United States for stargazing. Describing the phenomenon, he explains: “At sunset, these towering clouds took on unusual forms; by midnight, however, they had transformed into a massive supercell storm, producing dramatic lightning strikes.”

Alongside the release of these photographs, the Iranian astronomer announced that he would share the secrets of lunar photography and time-lapse techniques in an upcoming specialized webinar. The session is part of a broader series on night-sky photography, aimed at helping enthusiasts capture rare and fleeting moments with their own cameras.

Tafreshi’s images once again demonstrate how a combination of astronomical knowledge and patience in photography can transform ordinary atmospheric phenomena into stunning visual drama.
