SAEDNEWS: In its statement, the EU said that Hussein Shamkhani operates in a sector of the economy that constitutes a significant source of revenue for the government of the Russian Federation.
According to Saed News, the European Union has sanctioned Hussein Shamkhani and several companies affiliated with him as part of its latest round of measures against Russia for the war in Ukraine.
The political service of the Saed News analytical news website, citing Mehr, reports that the EU targeted Hussein Shamkhani, the son of Ali Shamkhani—senior adviser to the Supreme Leader—and added him to the bloc’s sanctions list. The EU statement explained that Shamkhani was sanctioned because of his role in Russia’s oil trade and as “one of the central actors” in the country’s so‑called “shadow fleet.”
The EU also imposed sanctions on two Dubai‑based firms owned by Hussein Shamkhani: Admiral Group and Milavous Group LTD.
