SAEDNEWS: Unnamed U.S. officials told Reuters that over the past month Iran has quietly laid the logistical groundwork for mining the Strait of Hormuz—potentially as a pressure tactic to convince Washington of its seriousness about closing the vital waterway.
According to Saed News, officials speaking on condition of anonymity told the Fars news agency that “we do not dismiss the possibility that preparing mines is a ruse by Iran to convince the United States of its resolve to close the Strait of Hormuz.”
Reuters reported early Wednesday that, although Iran has organized mine‐laying preparations in the strait over the last month, “no mines have yet been deployed.” These logistical moves, the sources said, followed an Israeli strike on Iranian targets.
The anonymous officials added, “We cannot rule out that the mine preparations are a ploy by Iran to persuade America of its seriousness about sealing the Strait of Hormuz.”
